Explore SpotAsk
Use this page as a map of what SpotAsk can do. Pick a task instead of a setting; each section explains when it is useful and where to start.
Quick questions from anywhere
Press your global hotkey to open a focused question window over any app. Ask, get an answer, copy it, and close with ⎋.
Work with selected text
Select text in Safari, Notes, or another app, then trigger SpotAsk with the selection shortcut or allow quick actions to appear automatically.
The quick actions can translate, explain, summarize, polish, or run a custom prompt. You can also choose a direct mode that runs the default action immediately.
Switch providers and models
SpotAsk keeps a list of AI services and models. You can change the default model in Settings or switch the model for the current conversation only from the chat window.
Ask with images and files
Drop in images, paste a screenshot, or attach supported text and code files. Follow-up questions keep that context during the current conversation.
Reuse workflows with prompts
Use the built-in Translate, Explain, Summarize, and Polish prompts, or create your own prompt for a repeated task. Custom instructions can set a consistent tone across questions.
Use SpotAsk with macOS
Open SpotAsk, ask a question, start a new conversation, or run a prompt from Spotlight, Siri, or Shortcuts.
Make the window work for you
Change the global hotkey, in-app shortcuts, window size, appearance, font size, message style, language, launch behavior, and conversation retention in Settings.
Advanced connection configuration
For custom providers, local services, proxy, service root versus full request address, and model discovery, use the connection guides.
